Surgical Anatomy

Overview:

This innovative course uses videos, interactive features, and questions to cover important anatomy in the head and neck, including the path of the facial nerve, its danger zones on the face, and Erb’s point. It also covers the blood supply to the face, how to manage bleeding optimally, and when and how to tie off vessels. Cadaveric dissections detail important sensory and motor nerves on the face, as well as how to undertake nerve blocks and surgery in the periorbital area.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify key anatomical structures in the head and neck, including the facial nerve, Erb’s point, and blood vessels
  • Explain the importance of the facial nerve’s path, danger zones, and how to manage bleeding during surgery
  • Demonstrate the steps for performing facial nerve blocks and surgeries in the periorbital area, recognising potential complications
