Introduction:

Engaging the Dermatology Curriculum: The Who, What and Why Behind Delivering a Curriculum is a faculty development day designed to support dermatologists involved in education and training to think critically and practically about curriculum design and delivery.

Through a combination of short expert-led sessions, facilitated discussion, and hands-on curriculum writing exercises, participants will explore what a curriculum is, why change is necessary, and how quality can be recognised and achieved in dermatology education. The day emphasises shared ownership of the curriculum, encouraging attendees to reflect on how individual and collective educational practice shapes the future of the specialty.

Learning objectives:

  1. Describe what is meant by a curriculum in medical education and outline key theoretical principles underpinning curriculum design
  2. Explain why curricula need to evolve, including educational, professional, and service-related drivers relevant to dermatology
  3. Identify features of quality in a dermatology curriculum, including coherence, progression, and alignment with real-world practice
  4. Apply core curriculum design principles to develop or revise curriculum components in a practical setting
  5. Reflect on the purpose and impact of curriculum decisions, considering learners, patients, and the future dermatology workforce
